Sassafras Trail / Kids in Parks TRACK Trail
Trail Description
This trail offers scenic views of Pilot Mountain's Big Pinnacle and vistas of the surrounding mountains, leading hikers through a unique fire-adapted forest ecosystem. The trail is 0.15 mile one way. The Sassafrass Trail is designated as a self-guided interpretive trail for kids, as part of the nationwide network of Kids in Parks Track Trails. Visitors can download activity brochures, track all of their adventures online, and get prizes on the Kids in Parks website. (https://www.kidsinparks.com/pilot-mountain-state-park) The trailhead is located to the left of the summit restroom. A hike out and back from the parking area is 0.3 mile.
